JAIC最新号、酸化資料の水性での中和＋抗酸化＋アルカリ化と、「布海苔」の文献レビューを掲載

アメリカ文化財保存修復学会の機関誌（Journal of the Amrican Insutitute for Conservation of Historic & Artistic Works：JAIC）の最新号（Vol. 44, No.2, 2005）は酸化した紙媒体資料をおだやかなアルカリ域で中和し、さらに抗酸化と脱酸性化（弱アルカリ化）を行う新しい方法と、日本では古くから表具他の分野で使われてきた布海苔のコンサベーションへの適用に関する、欧米からの新しい視点を掲載している。

John Bogaard et al. 　A Method for the Aqeous Deacidifi-cation of Oxidised Paper.　(p.63-74)
pH が中性域の塩（えん）の水溶液による光酸化した濾紙への安定化効果を見た。いくつかの塩の水溶液で実験したところ、短時間の浸漬で酸性紙は中和されたが、この処理後に、過剰な塩を洗い流す処置をしないと紙が黄ばむことが多い。しかし塩化カルシウムでの処置では化学的な劣化は認められず、未処置の濾紙と比較しての熱劣化試験でも劣化の進行は緩やかであることが分かった。希釈した水酸化カルシウム水溶液での洗い流しは、さらに効果的であった。またこれらの処置と水酸化ホウ素ナトリウム水溶液での還元処理を組み合わせると、還元漂白効果だけでなく、酸化した紙への抗酸化効果も増大することも分かった。一般に塩素（Cl)はコンサベーションの分野では「嫌われもの」だが、塩化カルシウムは穏やかな中世域の水溶液ができて、銀や亜鉛を除く、他の紙中の金属化合物との相性も良いので、今後実際の、酸化劣化した紙媒体資料への応用が期待できる。

日本の表具師には馴染み深い布海苔は、接着剤や顔料の定着剤等として300年以上前から使われてきたが、その効果や影響の科学的な解明は充分ではない。東洋美術の収集で名高いフリア・ギャラリー/アーサー・Ｍ・サックラー・ギャラリーの保存科学研究部門でも紙媒体や東洋美術の修復に布海苔を15年以上使用してきた。この論文では、欧米での関心が高まっている布海苔の有効性と影響について、日本を含む各国でどのような知見の蓄積や研究が行われてきたかを文献上で調べまとめている。

粘・接着剤シンポDas halt fur immer - Kleben und Losen: 貼ること、剥がすこと"アブストラクト

今年５月にブダペスト（ハンガリー）で開催された国際シンポジウム"Das halt fur immer - Kleben und Losen" / "This will stick forever - Attaching & Releasing"のアブストラクトが、主催したIADA（Internationale Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Archiv-, Bibliotheks- und Graphikrestauratoren）のホームページに掲載されている。

同シンポジウムは書物や文書他の紙媒体のコンサベーションに使われている様々な粘着剤・接着剤を対象にしたもので、粘着テープや熱圧着テープの使用と除き方、酵素の利用等の他に、ゼラチンの抗酸化効果、リーフキャスティングとともに行う紙力強化、そして処置最近ヨーロッパでも注目されている「ふのり」や「生麩糊」のコンサベーション分野での応用についても、化学的な所見が発表された。

どんな接着剤を、どのように-- オランダでの調査がPapier-restaurierung に

ドイツ語圏の紙媒体資料のコンサベーションの雑誌 Papier-restaurierung の最新号（Vol.6, 2005）は、オランダ国内の書籍や文書、紙媒体作品のコンサーバターに、いつも使っている接着剤について調査した結果をまとめ、Gebrauch von Klebstoffen; Eine Umfrage unter niederländischen Papierrestauratoren として報告している。この調査は、オランダ国立文化財研究所や国立図書館のコンサーバターや保存科学者が質問項目（どのような種類の接着剤を、どこから入手し、自分の仕事に合うように整え、保管しているか、さらに、望まれる物性、その使用法や乾燥法について）を作成し、2004年に実施された。この調査結果をもとに同年11月、国立図書館で開催されたシンポジウムは、澱粉糊、セルロースエーテル類、膠などのプロテイン類、合成接着剤の４つのセッションでの発表と意見交換として実を結んだ。今回の誌上では、調査の方法に焦点が当てられたとともに、調査結果からの発見を紹介している。個々のコンサーバターへのインタビューによるアプローチはこの種の調査では初の、かつ実り多いものになった。

粘・接着剤の国際シンポジウムが５月に　--日本の funori, shin-nori もテーマ

ドイツ語圏の紙媒体のコンサーバターが集う iada （internationale arbeitsgemeinschaft der archiv-, bibliotheks- und graphikrestauratoren）とハンガリー紙パルプ技術協会 pnyme（papir- es nyomdaipari muszaki egyesulet）は５月25-27日にブダペストの国立図書館（national szechenyi　library）で書物や文書他の紙媒体のコンサベーションに使われている様々な粘着剤・接着剤を対象にした国際シンポジウム（international symposium "das halt fur immer - kleben und losen" / "this will stick forever - attaching & releasing"）を開催する。このほど発表者とテーマがまとまった。粘着テープや熱圧着テープの使用と除き方、酵素の利用等の他に、最近ヨーロッパでも注目されている「ふのり」や「生麩糊」のコンサベーション分野での応用についても、化学的な所見が発表されるという。主なプログラムは以下の通り。
